Shillong, Dec 1: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Monday underscored the pivotal role of the Community & Rural Development (C&RD) Department, noting that nearly 80% of Meghalaya’s population falls under its jurisdiction.
“You have a great responsibility, and I urge you to continue working with the same commitment and dedication,” the chief minister said while inaugurating the new Directorate of Community & Rural Development office building at Lower Lachumiere.
He said the C&RD Department is central to the economic and social upliftment of rural communities, adding that its efforts have brought meaningful changes to villages across the state.
“The department has been performing well with committed and focused dedication in delivering schemes, projects and welfare activities to rural communities,” he remarked.
While congratulating the department on its new office building, Sangma emphasised that infrastructure alone does not define efficiency. “It is the heart and the soul with which you work that makes the difference,” he noted.
The inaugural event was attended by Community and Rural Development Minister Sosthenes Sohtun, Chief Secretary Dr Shakil P. Ahammed, Principal Secretary C&RD Sampath Kumar, and C&RD Director S. C. Sadhu.
