Ranveer Singh issues apology over Kantara imitation amid backlash

Actor Ranveer Singh apologized after facing backlash for mimicking a scene from Kantara Chapter 1 at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2025, where Rishab Shetty’s character is possessed by the Chamundi Daiva. The act sparked outrage, with the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti filing a complaint alleging hurt religious sentiments. Ranveer clarified on Instagram that his intention was to appreciate Rishab Shetty’s performance, expressing admiration for the challenging scene and emphasizing his respect for all cultures, traditions, and beliefs. He said, “If I’ve hurt anyone’s sentiments, I sincerely apologise.” The controversy arose after a viral video showed him referring to Chamundi Daiva as a “female ghost,” prompting criticism for disrespecting the goddess. During the event, Shetty himself signaled Ranveer to stop, reminding him that Daiva portrayals are sacred. Ranveer acknowledged the warning, stressing that his act was meant as an actor-to-actor tribute, not to offend religious beliefs. (IANS)
