Two drown in Nongstoin

NONGSTOIN: Two youths Androklis Nonglang and Banshanbor Lyngkhoi drowned in the PHED constructed dam at Mawrusyiar in Nongstoin on Saturday.

Lyngkhoi (15) was teaching Nonglang (17) how to swim when the incident occurred.

Nonglang, a resident of Langja Kyrdum, West Khasi Hills District was a Class XII student of KJP Synod Sepngi Higher Secondary School, Nongstoin while Lyngkhoi of Phodumbah Rambrai, West Khasi Hills was a student of Class IX of the same school.

Both rented a house at Tiwhsaw Nongstoin in order to pursue their education.

On Saturday, both of them went to the river to swim. Lyngkhoi was teaching Nonglang how to swim when the latter began to drown.

Lyngkhoi dived into the water to rescue his friend but to no avail. Eye witnesses saw the boys drowning and screamed for help. Villagers came to the rescue but were unable to save the duo.

The fire services were called in and after six hours of search, the bodies of the youths were recovered.
