Guwahati, Dec. 4: Congress MP from Assam, Gaurav Gogoi on Thursday raised in Parliament the dilapidated condition of the National Highway 37 between Jorhat and Dibrugarh.

“I specifically raised the situation of NH-37 connecting Jorhat to Dibrugarh, where the condition of the highway, especially in the stretches around Jhanjhi, Demow and Moran, has deteriorated severely. This route has become a daily struggle for commuters, farmers, students, and patients who rely on it for essential travel,” Gogoi, who raised the issue during Question Hour, later stated on social media.

“Despite paying substantial tolls, our people are forced to travel on dangerously broken and poorly maintained roads. I urged the minister to intervene immediately, hold NHIDCL accountable, and ensure that urgent repairs are carried out without delay,” the MP stated.

“Assam deserves safe and reliable national highways, not tolls for roads that continue to fail its people.

In his reply, Union minister of road transport and highways, Nitin Gadkari acknowledged the condition of the dilapidated stretches, attributing it partly to heavy rainfall.

Assuring corrective measures, Gadkari said the stretches were damaged after rainfall. “An inquiry was conducted and things have been rectified. Action has been taken against the contractor, and the road will be repaired in six months,” the Union minister said.
