MAWKYRWAT, Dec 5: The Court of the Special Judge (POCSO), South West Khasi Hills, Mawkyrwat, has convicted two men for raping minor girls in separate incidents that occurred in 2017 and 2019.
South West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, B Jyrwa, in a statement, said that an FIR was lodged on October 30, 2022, at Mawkyrwat Police Station by a woman who reported that her husband, Albad Kharlyngdoh of Domjyrti village, had been raping her daughter since 2017, when the child was only 10 years old.
Following the FIR, a case was registered under Section 5(I)(m)(n)/6 of the POCSO Act, and the investigation was entrusted to WPSI MM Arengh. The case was charge-sheeted on November 23, 2022.
On November 26, 2025, the court convicted Kharlyngdoh of the offences charged and sentenced him to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs 20,000. In default of payment, he will undergo an additional two months of simple imprisonment.
In another case, a written FIR was lodged on September 28, 2019, alleging that a 15-year-old girl had been raped by Sushanto Hajong of Photkroh village under Ranikor Civil Sub-Division. The FIR also stated that the accused coerced the victim into undergoing an abortion. A case was registered and handed over to WPSI JM Kurbah for investigation. The case was charge-sheeted on December 31, 2019.
On November 26, the court convicted Hajong and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 15,000. In default of payment, he will have to undergo an additional two months of simple imprisonment.
