SHILLONG, Dec 7: The Presbyterian Today International Network on Saturday adopted Kamsing village in West Jaintia Hills district as a ‘Free Education Village’ in India.
The inauguration ceremony was held in the presence of Presbyterian Today International Network president Daniel Stone Lyngdoh.
The event was also attended by Daman Lakashiang, Doloi of Elaka Satpator; Augustin Pamblang, Waheh Shnong of Kamsing village; executive members of the Presbyterian Youth Today International Network; and villagers.
Lyngdoh, who is also an advocate in the Supreme Court, said the initiative is aimed at making education more accessible to the children in Kamsing village.
“The primary objective of adopting this village is due to the fact that this village is situated in an isolated place and along the Indo-Bangladesh border. But the main reason of adopting this village is due to the problems of the residents in this village where they face challenges during travelling and transportation,” Lyngdoh said, revealing that the villagers travel only by boats through rivers throughout all the seasons.
“The move will help promote this isolated village and uphold education there, shaping the future of the children there despite challenges,” he added.
