SHILLONG, Dec 7: With the festive spirit beginning to light up Shillong, several localities are preparing for their annual pre-Christmas cleaning drives—an important tradition that brings communities together to renew and beautify their surroundings.
Two localities, Lumshyiap and Lawmali Pyllun, have announced their respective schedules. The Dorbar Shnong Lumshyiap will conduct its annual cleaning on December 15, while Dorbar Shnong Lawmali Pyllun will hold its drive on December 12. Both activities will commence at 8 am and continue until the tasks are completed.
In a statement, Dorbar Shnong Lumshyiap secretary KP Phawa urged landowners who do not reside in the village but possess property within its jurisdiction to visit the Dorbar Shnong office before or on the day of the cleaning drive.
This, he said, is necessary to ensure proper coordination and active participation.
Phawa further stressed that those who fail to comply with the notice will not be held responsible for any issues concerning their properties during the cleaning operation.
Highlighting the importance of collective responsibility, he encouraged all residents to take part and help maintain a clean and healthy environment.
Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Dorbar Shnong Lawmali Pyllun assistant secretary P Nongneng called upon all residents to step out of their homes and contribute to the cleaning effort.
He also appealed to motorists passing through the locality to drive cautiously and maintain minimal speed to prevent any untoward incidents.
Shopkeepers, too, have been requested to keep their shutters closed during the duration of the cleaning drive to allow the smooth conduct of the programme.
