Ri Bhoi plantation scam

SHILLONG: The State Forest department is yet to initiate action based on the CID inquiry into the plantation scam in Ri Bhoi district.

In November 2012, Anurag Kumar, the Special Supt., CID, had sent a letter to RL Lyngdoh, Joint Secretary, Forest, regarding the irregularities of land acquisition for plantation in Ri Bhoi by the department.

The letter from the CID officer addressed to Lyngdoh said that “under Sections 120(b), 423, 468 IPC and read with Section 13(c) of PC Act, 1988, a case has been registered, and you are requested to notify a nodal officer to co-ordinate with different departments in connections with the action to be taken in the case”.

The department had earlier asked Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner to cancel the land acquisition proceedings related to Mawpalai plantations and get back Rs. 8 crore from former Umroi MLA Stanly Wiss Rymbai which was paid to him as land compensation.
