SHILLONG, Dec 8: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday declared that Guwahati is poised to emerge as a major global concert destination, rivaling Shillong, thanks to the surging popularity of international acts like Post Malone’s headline show.
Speaking to reporters amid the buzz surrounding the Grammy-nominated artist’s first solo India performance—part of his Big Ass World Tour—Sarma highlighted the event’s massive draw and economic ripple effects.
“There are people pouring in from the US and UK to watch his performance. Hotels are 100 percent filled. It helps the economy, and the Assam government has not financially supported organising Malone’s concert,” Sarma said, adding, “What was earlier an advantage for Shillong, will now also be for Guwahati.”
Sarma expressed optimism that 4-5 such high-profile shows annually could transform Guwahati into a vibrant “concert economy” epicentre, mirroring Shillong’s longstanding reputation for hosting international artists.
