SHILLONG, Dec 10: The Elaka Mawmluh, under the authority of the Mawmluh Sirdarship, has strongly cautioned all individuals, groups and organisations against demanding money from vehicles passing through the Mawmluh area.
Mawmluh Sirdarship secretary, Banlam K Lyngdoh, said it has come to the attention of the Elaka that certain private individuals or entities have been unlawfully collecting money from trucks and other vehicles in the name of Mawmluh Village. Such actions, Lyngdoh maintained, are unauthorised, illegal and strictly prohibited.
Meanwhile, the authority of the Elaka Mawmluh has also imposed an immediate ban on any form of monetary collection from vehicles within its jurisdiction. Anyone found engaging in such activities will face appropriate action as per the relevant laws and customary regulations.
The Elaka has urged the general public, transporters and concerned stakeholders to remain vigilant and report any such unauthorised demands to the proper authorities without delay.
In addition, the Elaka Mawmluh Authority expressed serious concern over the persistent disturbances caused by the untimely and high-speed movement of cattle-laden and other vehicles during late-night hours.
Continuous noise and disruptions have led to sleepless nights for residents, prompting the Elaka to implement strict measures to safeguard the peace, rest and well-being of the community.
Effective immediately, the movement of cattle-laden vehicles through the Mawmluh area has also been prohibited after 11 pm.
Any driver, owner, or operator of a vehicle found violating this timing restriction will face suspension of passage rights and further investigation by the Elaka Authority. Furthermore, appropriate action will be taken as per customary and administrative provisions.
Meanwhile, the Elaka Mawmluh has urged all transport operators and stakeholders to comply with these directives in the interest of maintaining harmony and respecting the rights of the local populace.
