Shillong, Dec 11: The Assam Rifles has announced that the fifth edition of its Half Marathon will take place in Shillong on Sunday, December 14, 2025, marking the return of the Northeast’s biggest racing event. Organisers are anticipating record turnout this year, driven by the marathon’s rising popularity across the region and the country.
The 2025 Assam Rifles Half Marathon is expected to draw more than 3,000 runners from various age groups — from 12 years to over 60 — competing in the 5 km, 10 km and 21 km categories. Participants will race through the scenic Upper Shillong route, with a total prize purse of ₹20 lakh up for grabs, the highest the event has offered so far. Several dignitaries from the government, armed forces and civil society are also expected to attend.
With each edition attracting larger crowds, the marathon has grown into one of the Northeast’s most anticipated fitness events, promoting a culture of health, unity and outdoor sport.
