Tango sessions with professionals available at Buenos Aires dance hall
Buenos Aires, Dec 12: In the heart of Buenos Aires, a unique dance hall ensures that women always get to dance tango with professional partners.
At Che Che Tango Premium “milonga” events, 14 men in elegant suits sit at tables while 14 women in dresses and heels wait to be asked for a dance. As the music begins, male dancers approach the women, and couples glide across the floor in the graceful movements of tango.
Women book their sessions in advance via WhatsApp, avoiding the long waits common at traditional “milongas,” where women often outnumber men.
Among the participants is 69-year-old French dancer Antje Rickel, who partnered with Jared Ramos, a younger professional tango dancer. Despite differences in age and height, the pair moved in perfect harmony.
The program guarantees two-hour dance sessions, priced at 55,000 pesos (around $37) for foreigners and about $30 for Argentine nationals and residents.
Organizers Alejandro Justiniano and Sara Parnigoni emphasize creating a space where participants can dance as they’ve always dreamed.
Justiniano carefully selects male dancers, ensuring most are professionals or tango teachers with extensive experience.
He conceived the idea after noticing many women at traditional milongas spent evenings on the sidelines, unable to find partners.
His “mini milonga” concept offers a more intimate setting for women to reach their full potential in two hours of guaranteed dancing.
Ramos explained that traditional milongas pose challenges for women, as there are often 10 women for every man, and not all men are skilled dancers.
The Che Che Tango Premium events address these issues by providing experienced male dancers, known as “Taxi Dancers,” to accompany women, allowing them to enjoy the dance fully.
Held on Wednesdays and Fridays, the program combines professional instruction, guaranteed dance partners, and a welcoming environment, creating an ideal space for tango enthusiasts to practice, socialize, and experience the elegance of the iconic Argentine dance.
The initiative ensures that every attendee, regardless of age or skill, experiences the joy and connection of tango in a supportive and engaging setting. (AP)
