SHILLONG, Dec 13: Implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) remains incomplete in Meghalaya, even as contractors await the clearance of an estimated Rs 700 crore in pending dues from the state government.
The state has achieved 83.15% coverage, according to the JJM dashboard. Since the Mission’s launch, 5,37,402 households have received tap water connections, falling short of the intended target of 6,46,304 households.
Of Meghalaya’s 6,456 villages, 4,285 have achieved 100% household tap connection status. Work is currently in progress in 2,160 villages, while 11 villages have yet to see construction begin.
Crucially, the dashboard confirms that no district in the state has achieved 100% coverage. While districts like South Garo Hills, East Garo Hills, and South West Garo Hills are close, reporting just over 90% connections, West Garo Hills and East Jaintia Hills remain the worst performers, with household connectivity hovering between 72% and 74%.
