Shillong, Dec 14: The 27th Annual General Council of the Seng Kur Warjri was held at Siejiong village near New Shillong Township, drawing a large gathering of clan members to discuss issues related to welfare, ethnic identity, and the preservation of traditional culture.
Resolutions focused on strengthening social cohesion and safeguarding Warjri heritage. Meritorious students and achievers were felicitated with awards and token incentives.
Those honoured included Everest champion mountaineer Rifiness Warjri; Dr. Calvin Donkupar Warjri (PhD in Zoology); Kynsailang Warjri (sixth position, first division, BSc Microbiology); Riokesh Warjri (President’s Medal for Fire Service); and Rufina Warjri (eighth position, first division, BCom). A football tournament was also organised, with Thynroit defeating Eastern West Khasi by a solitary goal in the final. Trophies and medals were presented to both teams.
The programme marked a leadership transition, with president Barkos Warjri handing over charge to vice president Prosper Warjri. Rodson Warjri of Rangskhen Urur was elected vice president. The event concluded with musical performances by various units, including Siejiong and Mawkneng, with a special rendition by Just Warjri highlighting the clan’s history. It was announced that the next council will be held at Wahlang village, West Khasi Hills.
