SHILLONG, Dec 16: The High Court of Meghalaya has registered a PIL based on the report of The Shillong Times published on Tuesday with the heading “City grapples with water crisis as PHE shutdown continues”.
S. Sen, counsel drew the court’s attention to the ST report in relation to the water crisis in certain parts of Shillong.
Sen submitted that the city is grappling with water crisis for some time and the people of Shillong are facing difficulty due to acute shortage of water.
Advocate General Amit Kumar, appearing on behalf of the state government, submitted that he will look into the matter and file a report, if possible, by Wednesday.
“Let this matter be registered as the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) based on the report of The Shillong Times… The copy of the newspaper shall be kept with the record,” the Division Bench comprising of Chief Justice Soumen Sen and Justice Hamarsan Singh Thangkhiew said.
The matter will be heard again on Wednesday.
