London, Dec 16: England have reached a defining moment in their Ashes campaign, with hindsight now casting a harsh spotlight on decisions made long before the first ball was bowled.
Trailing 2-0 in the series, defeat in the third Test in Adelaide would deepen scrutiny on selections, preparation and the overall direction of the team under Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum.
Questions have resurfaced over England’s warm-up plans, squad balance and backroom choices, particularly ahead of the pink-ball Test in Brisbane. The absence of a specialist opener after Zak Crawley’s injury, uncertainty over the number three position, limited spin options and a lack of specialist cover in key roles have all been highlighted. Off-field decisions, including team management during the tour, have also drawn criticism.
After the second Test loss, strong language was used to describe England’s fragility, forcing the leadership group to confront the culture they have built. (Agencies)
