NONGPOH, Dec 21: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) successfully concluded its Pre-Christmas Village Community Programme 2025 at Jorbil Field, Greater Killing. The event strengthened community ties by honouring local leaders, recognising academic merit, and providing essential welfare support ahead of the festive season.
Organised with the Jorbil Village, the Greater Killing Community, and the USTM Neighbourhood Mission, the programme reinforced USTM’s commitment to social responsibility and inclusive development beyond academic boundaries.
USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque addressed the event, underscoring the university’s vision of aligning higher education with grassroots empowerment. He stated that true progress is achieved when institutions grow alongside the communities they serve.
The programme focused on recognizing merit and extending direct support to residents. Students were felicitated for academic excellence. Additionally, socially active youths, local business leaders, village headmen, and the President and Secretary of All Killing Dorbar were honoured for their contributions and leadership in local development.
Focusing on welfare, blankets were distributed to senior citizens. PIMC also conducted a free health camp and distributed digital health cards, providing vital support for health and well-being in neighboring communities.
Cultural performances by Khasi and Garo groups celebrated the region’s rich heritage, reinforcing the spirit of unity and harmony ahead of Christmas.
Local community representatives expressed appreciation for USTM’s continued engagement, calling the initiative a bridge between education and society, a statement issued here informed.
