Royal Global University to host AIU NE Zone Inter-University Football Tournament 2025–26

Guwahati, Dec 23: The Assam Royal Global University (RGU) is set to host the Northeast Zone Inter University Football (Men) Tournament 2025–2026 organised under the aegis of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
The tournament will be held from January 5 to January 11, 2026, at the RGU campus.
A press meet in this regard was organised by Royal Global University to brief the media about the preparations, scale, and significance of the tournament, which is one of the most prestigious inter-university sporting events.
The press meet was addressed by Prof AK Buragohain, Vice Chancellor; Prof Amlandeep Das, Associate Dean Student Affairs; Dr DN Singh, Registrar Academics; Ms Angira Mimani, Associate Dean, Student Affairs and Mr Hrishikesh Pathak, Sports Officer & Organising Secretary.

Addressing the press meet, Prof AK Buragohain stated that hosting the AIU Northeast Zone Football Tournament aligns with RGU’s vision of fostering holistic development through sports, teamwork, and discipline, while also strengthening inter-university camaraderie across the region.

He further said that the opening ceremony of the tournament will take place on January 5, 2026, at 3:30 pm, and will be graced by Sri Kento Jini, Hon’ble Minister of Law, Legislative & Justice, SJETA, Sports & Youth Affairs, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, as the Chief Guest.

“The tournament is expected to showcase exceptional footballing talent from the Northeast and serve as a platform for young athletes to progress to higher levels of competitive sports”, said Prof Amlandeep Das.
31 universities from across the Northeast will participate in the tournament. Royal Global University will be hosting 24 universities on campus, accommodating nearly 481 players and 49 coaches/managers, reflecting the university’s robust infrastructure and commitment to promoting sports at the national level.
