New Delhi, Dec 23: The India-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is expected to boost investor confidence by expanding market access and fostering economic collaboration, experts said. Economist Ved Jain highlighted that improved opportunities in goods, services, agriculture, investment, and emerging sectors across both countries create tangible benefits, instilling positivity among investors about the Indian and New Zealand economies.
The FTA eliminates duties on 100% of Indian exports to New Zealand and includes a $20 billion investment commitment over 15 years, strengthening long-term economic and strategic cooperation.
Nikhil Madrasi, President of the South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce, noted that tariff-free access to New Zealand’s market will greatly benefit Indian exporters, while industrialist Vijay Mewawala emphasized India’s opportunity to assert itself as a global trade leader amidst regional conflicts.
India has offered market access on 70% of tariff lines while retaining exclusions on products such as dairy, certain vegetables, sugar, animal fats, arms, gems, and metals including copper and aluminum.
Experts believe the FTA will enhance Indian product demand, strengthen domestic industries, and generate employment across sectors.
Dr. Shikha Darbari, former Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, highlighted that the long-term $20 billion agreement aims to double bilateral trade within five years, reflecting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for global economic engagement.
The FTA is expected to create positive momentum for India’s economy, open new markets for exporters, and signal growing international confidence in the country’s economic stability and growth prospects.
Overall, the India-New Zealand FTA is viewed as a strategic move to strengthen trade relations, attract investment, and enhance India’s role in global commerce, while providing domestic industries with opportunities to expand internationally. (IANS)
