DUBLIN, Jan 10: Ireland on Friday unveiled their 15-member squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, co-hosted by Sri Lanka and India, with seasoned opener Paul Stirling once again entrusted with the captaincy. Wicketkeeper-batter Lorcan Tucker has been named vice-captain.
Twelve of the selected players were part of the previous edition, while Tim Tector, Ben Calitz and Matthew Humphreys are the fresh faces breaking into the squad this time.
The upcoming event will mark Ireland’s ninth appearance at the global showpiece. Their strongest runs came in 2009 and 2022, when they advanced to the second round and famously stunned former champions England and West Indies. National selector Andrew White expressed optimism about a stronger campaign after a mixed outing in 2024.
“We are extremely excited for this T20 World Cup,” White said.
“We weren’t at our best in 2024, and the team has been eager to put that right.”
Acknowledging the stiff challenge in Group B, White said Ireland remain unfazed.“We know it’s a tough pool with the hosts involved, but we’ve faced most of these sides recently. We’ll go into every match with belief,” he said. (Agencies)
