Guwahati, January 12: The North East Zone Inter-University Football (Men)
Tournament 2025–26, organised by The Assam Royal Global University (RGU) under the
aegis of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), concluded successfully after a week of
high-intensity matches marked by grit, teamwork, and an unwavering passion for the game.
Held from January 5 to January 11, 2026, the prestigious tournament brought together
football teams from across the Northeast, transforming the RGU campus into a vibrant hub of competitive sporting action.
The tournament featured participation from 31 universities, with
613 players and around 60 coaches and managers competing for top honours, according to a Press release.
In the final standings, Mizoram University emerged as the champions, securing the 1st
position, followed by Dibrugarh University in 2nd place. Dhanamanjuri University claimed
the 3rd position, while Nagaland University finished 4th.
As the host institution, Royal Global University accommodated 24 universities on its campus, hosting nearly 481 players along with 49 coaches and managers.
The seamless organisation and world-class facilities showcased RGU’s robust infrastructure and its capability to successfully host national-level sporting events.
From the first whistle to the final goal, the tournament stood as a celebration of
sportsmanship, unity, and excellence, reinforcing the spirit of inter-university collaboration
and the growing stature of football in the Northeast.
