Guwahati: After riding on waves of appreciation for her singing talents, a young girl from Assam’s Sivsagar district is now confidently ‘walking’ to achieve her dreams and goals.
Meena ((name changed), born with naturally unfolded feet which prevented the girl from standing up on her own feet, is now able to move around freely after she was fitted a pair of artificial limbs.
The budding singing talent, a girl student of Class X, was born with naturally unfolded feet which were of no use to her.
Literally crippled since her birth, she had picked up singing as her hobby and attained considerable appreciation for her gifts as a singer.
However, young Meena was unable to even stand up without the support of others.
But, with the artificial limb fitting centre of the Shree Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti, Guwahati, established recently, her parents immediately brought her here, where the doctors, after thoroughly examining her and taking the girl’s history, decided to provide her a pair of artificial feet.
Specially designed for her, the artificial limbs were fitted to her in just two sittings, thus enabling her to stand up, as also move around.
The artificial feet have been so specially designed for her that they also provide leg room for the existing unfolded feet that she was born with.
”I never thought I will be able to stand up on my own and move around so freely. It is like beginning life anew. I am immensely happy to be able to walk around for the first time in my life,” Meena said. (UNI)
