TURA, Jan 14: Leader of the Opposition and former chief minister Mukul Sangma has assured the family of slain ACHIK activist Dilseng M. Sangma of his personal intervention to ensure justice.
Mukul on Monday visited Goalgaon village in Rajabala where he met the bereaved family and expressed his condolences.
The Leader of the Opposition, accompanied by several political and youth leaders, including Dadenggre MLA Rupa M Marak, Williamnagar MDC Alphonsus R Marak, Damas MDC Pardinand D Shira, Rongrong MDC Rinaldo K Sangma, Richard M Marak and Saljagringrang R Marak, joined the family in mourning the death of the youth activist, who was killed by assailants last week.
Addressing villagers, Mukul spoke about the complex background and issues that led to the tragic incident as he touched upon concerns related to land ownership, illegal mining and border security.
Recalling measures taken during his tenure, he referred to efforts to regulate mining activities and protect tribal land rights under the Sixth Schedule, and highlighted laws enacted to curb benami land holdings, illegal migration and encroachment in border areas.
The former chief minister assured the family that he would personally pursue the case with the authorities to ensure speedy justice and strict action against those involved in the crime.
He also met the young daughter of the deceased, who is studying in Class IX, and assured full support for the continuation of her education.
