US as global bully

Global order is in for a major disruption with US President Donald Trump beginning to act in a hyper-active mode, virtually disrupting governance in leftist Venezuela, staking his claim for Greenland and now threatening military action in Iran to unseat the Ayatollah Khamenei-led clerics from their long-held power there. Clearly, Trump is acting as a global bully and usurper, with his guiding principle being “might is right.” The United Nations, formed after the Second World War to arbitrate disputes between nations and avoid wars in future, is often caught napping in situations of war in recent times. The US being its main fund-provider, the global body is often a passive spectator to aggressive postures from the US. While Democrats are more friendly to the outside world, Republican rule more often than not creates situations of confrontations and war. Donald Trump being from the Republican stock, his first term as president was relatively cool compared to his present term, which started a year ago.
The US is often labelled as a global bully due to its strong and aggressive stands vis-à-vis the issues of the outside world. However, with the Soviet Union disintegrating and Russia under Vladimir Putin not keen to adopt an anti-US posture, a scenario has emerged wherein the US actions have gone unchallenged. American offensives in Afghanistan, or Iraq later, were understandable, if not justified, as these happened in the aftermath of the Al Qaeda bombing on Twin Towers and elsewhere. Americans’ tough action in the name of the global fight against terror won wide support, even from some of the Islamic nations, not excluding Saudi Arabia. Yet, the selective amnesia of Americans is evident when it comes to handling Pakistan, currently seen as the epicentre of global terror. The sanctuary offered by the Pakistani military to Al Qaeda leader Bin Laden, close to the military headquarters of Rawalpindi, too did not ruffle US feathers against the Islamic nation. In Pakistan’s anti-India stands, support often came from the US at the diplomatic level as also in the supply of sophisticated military armaments. While the US’s financial and military support to Pakistan was explained as help for the latter in fighting terrorism, these were used by the Pakistan military to target India.
It would now appear that the US president is keen on subverting the global order altogether and establishing American authority over nations near and far. Venezuela could be the starting point. No nation is safe from the American greed for capture of others’ wealth, be it oil or other precious natural resources, as in the case of Venezuela and Greenland. Trump’s call to Denmark to simply hand over Greenland, or America would take it by force, shows the President’s excessive greed. He has begun addressing himself as the President of Venezuela. Trump tasted success in global aggressiveness first by his self-appointed mediation to halt Operation Sindoor, and announcing the ceasefire to the world before the Indian or Pakistani governments could do it. This is still an unexplained enigma as far as Indians are concerned.
