NONGSTOIN: The Hima Raid Mynsaw has decided to elect a new Sirdar of the Raid as the tenure of the current Sirdar Hindro Samakha has come to an end.

The meeting held at Langpih on Thursday was attended by hundreds of people from all the villages of the area.

The meeting also decided to set a date for election of the new Sirdar after careful deliberations on the matter.

The gathering also condemned an attempt of the Assam administration to survey the four Khasi villages of Mawlan, Nongmah, Umiaw and Mawshikar to allegedly set up a police battalion camp there.

All Khasi villagers of the area were warned against conspiring with the Assam administration or the Assam police.

The meeting, further, decided to resume the construction of the incomplete market shed at Langpih. A decision was also taken to file a complaint against one Pailos Syiemlieh, a resident of the area, for his alleged attempt to sell his land to the Assam government.
