Williamnagar CSOs rally seeking justice for Dilseng M Sangma

Williamnagar, Jan 19: Thousands of residents of the town of Williamnagar in East Garo Hills (EGH) led by a conglomeration of CSOs today held a rally seeking justice for Dilseng Sangma, who was killed by a group of miscreants near the village of Goalgaon on Jan 9 this year.

Dilseng was killed after a group of miscreants attacked them while they were returning from inspecting a few illegal stone quarries near Wadagokgre Aking. The group, which was returning in four cars, were attacked with sticks, stones as well as weapons leading to two of them suffering grievous injuries. Dilseng lost his wife while on the way to the Tura Civil Hospital for treatment.

A total of 8 arrests have been made in the case so far including one quarry owner though police are on the lookout for more people that were involved in the case.

The rally was led by CSOs including GSU, FKJGP, ADE, FAF, AAYF, Mothers’ Union, SIPF, AOSW, APA, ACHIK, ADIL, NGCO, GES, AOSW, AIGU, Pick Up Association, AHAM and APA

The rally was held this morning and moved through the entire bazaar area.

The rallying protesters sought justice for Dilseng as well as action against all those involved in the case.

“We strongly condemn the incident at Goalgaon and demand justice for the victim. This justice should also include compensation for the family of the victim. We also want the stoppage of illegal settlements and the protection of our tribe against such atrocities. We will not rest until justice is served,” stated a member of the conglomeration of CSOs.
