SHILLONG, Jan 20: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday issued a series of directives to address healthcare manpower shortages, infrastructure deficiencies and pending land-related issues in Baghmara and South Garo Hills, following a review meeting with the district administration, line departments and community representatives.
The meeting flagged the non-joining of specialist doctors posted to Baghmara, shortages of medical manpower, the need for hospital infrastructure upgrade, and the absence of a post-operation ward and ambulance services.
Furthermore, water shortage at the hospital, renovation of staff quarters, border fencing and security concerns, pending compensation for land acquisition and issues related to the Baghmara Stadium were also discussed.
The chief minister directed the deputy commissioner and the Health department to immediately bridge manpower gaps to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services.
Officials were instructed to resolve the hospital’s water shortage at once and take up renovation of the staff quarters.
Further, the Health department was asked to complete the post-operation ward at the earliest, while the matter of sanctioning an ambulance will be taken up.
On land-related issues, Conrad said he would write to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) regarding compensation for land that has not yet been released.
Officials were also directed to resolve the land issue concerning the Baghmara Stadium within the week.
