Tura, Jan 22: The Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers and Employees Association along with the Khasi Jaintia School Teachers Association recently submitted a memorandum to Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Education Department, Vijay Kumar Mantri raising various pending issues concerning them.

Raising the issue of DA payment including arrears, the association pointed out that while Deficit teachers have been enjoying DA at par with their counterparts in government service since their inception, disparity persisted since 2024 with government employees drawing 51% while they were paid only 43% DA. In this regard, the association urged the government to restore DA parity with government employees (along with arrears which so far has remained pending).

Another issue raised by the teachers was the implementation of the CPF and NPS Schemes for teachers joining after April 1 2010.

On the CPF Scheme, the association urged the official’s intervention to expedite the processing and operationalization of CPF particularly for retired Deficit teachers and to issue a clear and written guideline on CPF deduction, benefit and retirement procedures as well as to allot individual CPF contributions under the scheme.

With regard to the NPS scheme, the association informed that though implementation process for the same for the said teachers had begun, it was currently being delayed. The association sought the resumption of necessary formalities to ensure that all eligible teachers receive their due benefits.
