Guwahati, Jan 22: The Assam excise department launched an online licensing system here on Wednesday, in a move to facilitate hassle-free issuance of excise-related licences to citizens.
The AERMS – Assam Excise Revenue Management System was formally launched during a meeting attended by state excise minister Atul Bora.
“Henceforth, citizens can apply for all excise-related licences online through the AERMS – Assam Excise Revenue Management System,” the excise minister said after the launch.
As it is, the Assam government has enhanced monitoring at the district level for efficiency and dynamism in the state excise department.
In this regard, the minister also chaired a review meeting with excise superintendents, deputy superintendents, and inspectors from across the state to assess the latest progress of departmental work in the districts.
“Illegal production and circulation of liquor pose serious threats to public health and cause significant revenue loss to the state. Keeping this in view, the meeting involved detailed analysis of data, identification of shortcomings in implementation, and issuance of necessary corrective directions,” the minister stated after the meeting.
“Emphasis was placed on strict enforcement of all rules and diligent execution of departmental responsibilities,” he said.
The meeting was attended by excise department secretaries Adil Khan, Neera Doulagupu, commissioner Jitu Doley, and other senior officials.
