Resubelpara, Jan 24: Reaffirming the spirit of democracy and the dignity of free, fair and peaceful elections, the Office of the District Election Officer, North Garo Hills, observed the 16th National Voters’ Day today at Resubelpara.
Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Abhishek Saini, graced the occasion as Chief Guest and led the gathering in administering the National Voters’ Day pledge, wherein participants resolved to uphold democratic traditions and exercise their franchise fearlessly and responsibly.
In his address, the Deputy Commissioner acknowledged the contribution of grassroots workers and Booth Level Officers for their commitment in registering new voters and maintaining accurate electoral data, ensuring a clean and inclusive electoral process. He also urged all eligible voters to participate in the forthcoming GHADC elections, noting that “every vote counts and makes a difference.” Senior citizens who continue to vote despite age-related challenges were recognised as inspirations for younger voters. He stressed that voting is an opportunity to elect leaders who represent the people’s voice and must be exercised with enthusiasm.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Election), T.M.G. Momin, spoke on this year’s theme, “My India My Vote,” underscoring the role of Indian citizens at the heart of democracy. She urged for wider participation of eligible voters and called upon community leaders to spread the message of essential voting.
District SVEEP Icon, Changrik Sangma, highlighted the significance of voting and EPIC as a national identity document, and the need to promote fair voting practices through public outreach activities.
