Three soldiers among ten killed in Doda cremated in Haryana
Yamunanagar/Rupnagar, Jan 24: The mortal remains of Sudhir Narwal, Mohit Chauhan, and Jobanjit Singh, among the 10 soldiers who died when their Army vehicle fell into a gorge in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir, were cremated in their native villages in Haryana and Punjab on Saturday. The Caspir armoured vehicle, carrying troops for an anti-terror operation, plunged 200 feet at Khanni Top due to loss of control. Narwal (30) was cremated in Sherpur, Haryana; Chauhan (26) in Gijarodh, Jhajjar; and Singh (23) in Chanoli, Rupnagar, Punjab. Families, villagers, and officials, including state ministers and Army representatives, paid homage. Narwal’s son, Chauhan’s brother, and Singh’s father lit the funeral pyres. Singh, the only son, was to marry in March. Mourners remembered the soldiers as disciplined, dedicated, and patriotic, mourning the tragic loss of young lives committed to serving the nation. (PTI)
Bihar: Two children lost their lives in fire incident
PATNA, Jan 24: In Patna district, Bihar, tragedy struck on Saturday when two young children, Priyanshu Kumar (7) and Mansi Kumari (3), died after a fire broke out in a hut/barn in Danada village under the Bhagwanganj police station area. The children were inside the hut when the fire suddenly erupted around 2:30 PM, while their family members were working in the fields. Their father, Vikas Kumar, who had recently returned from Chachasi, Vikram police station area, was inconsolable, saying he discovered the children only after the fire had engulfed the hut. The children had been staying with their aunt in the village, and their father had brought them along to get their Aadhaar cards prepared. Police and villagers rushed to the scene, but it was too late to save them. The Bhagwanganj police have recovered the bodies and sent them for post-mortem. The incident has left the village in deep mourning, with the cause of the fire still under investigation. (IANS)
Chhattisgarh: Maoist IED plot foiled, 100 kg explosives seized
Raipur/Bijapur, Jan 24: Security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district foiled a major Maoist operation on Saturday, recovering 16 IEDs and a large cache of explosives and supplies from dense forest areas between Bandepara and Neelamadgu villages. The devices, hidden in beer bottles, were neutralised on site by the Bomb Disposal Squad, preventing any casualties. The joint operation, involving the District Reserve Guard, CRPF’s 22nd Battalion, and local police, also uncovered 100 kg of gelatin sticks, cordex wires, gunpowder, communication equipment, uniforms, and Maoist literature buried in steel containers and plastic buckets. Officials said the seizure would significantly disrupt insurgent operations in the region. Intelligence-driven combing operations continue, with security forces maintaining close monitoring to ensure local safety and curb Naxal violence. The recovery highlights the ongoing efforts to dismantle Maoist networks in Chhattisgarh. (IANS)
