TURA, Jan 25: Members of the Muslim community in Chibinang held a candlelight vigil recently to express solidarity and grief following the death of ACHIK member Dilseng M Sangma.
Sangma died after being assaulted by a mob on January 9 at Goalgaon, under Rajabala Police Station. As a mark of respect, the Chibinang market remained closed for several hours during the vigil.
In a joint statement, community leaders and residents condemned the killing and demanded that the authorities identify and punish the perpetrators without delay. They also called for peace and urged the administration to act against individuals using social media to spread hate speech and misinformation regarding the incident.
“Violence and hatred only lead to further pain and cause irreparable damage to unity and brotherhood,” the statement read, calling for collective efforts to restore communal harmony.
The vigil was led by social activist Ashraff Hoque, alongside local leaders Hashanur Zaman, Gaon Bura Shamsul Hoque, Jahingir Sarkar, and representatives from the local business and youth communities.
