SHILLONG: CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing on Thursday lodged a complaint with Chief Information Commissioner after the Appellate Authority of the Police Headquarters refused to provide information sought under the RTI ACT 2005.

According to CSWO, the Appellate Authority of the Police Headquarters has refused to furnish the information on grounds that it was not in the interest of personal safety of the police personnel and could endanger their lives.

“The information does not outweigh the public interests and the police personnel being Government servants are also under scrutiny especially when there is rampant overwriting in the arms and ammunition registers, in Jaintia Hills, where the name of the ex-MP P.R.Kyndiah was also noted just to be overlooked by the then SP Jaintia Hills,” Kharshiing said. The public has every right to know when the arms, that was used on the fateful day, had gone to Jaintia Hills, she added.

Kharshiing reasoned that seeking information for the purchase of the glock pistol cannot be denied as public money has been spent for the purchase.
