SHILLONG: The ongoing work for the construction of the first five star hotel of the State in the old premises of Shillong Municipal Board seems to have hit a stumbling block with some of the residents in the premises moving the court to save their shops.

However, the Government has targeted September 2012 as the deadline to complete the project which is expected to boost the tourism sector of the State.

Urban Affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Thursday paid a visit to the site to take stock of the project.

Speaking to reporters here, Lyngdoh said the work for the project is on track and is expected to be commissioned before the deadline.

Reacting to a query on the legal tangle involving the project, she said “I would meet the lawyers on August 29 to discuss the issue.”

The upcoming hotel which is being constructed at 72000 square feet area will have around two hundred rooms with state of the art facilities.

“We are concentrating on maximum landscaping besides ensuing that the project follows all building bye laws,” Lyngdoh added.

It may be mentioned that the private firm HM Cements which is implementing the project has tied up with the famous Mariott group of hotels, USA.

An official of the HM Cements said the work has been suspended at present due to the monsoon while adding it (work) will begin in full swing from September.
