TURA, Jan 28: In the wake of a poster claiming to be from ISIS-K with a warning towards the Garo community to vacate their homes, turning up overnight, a video of which is going viral in the social media, social activist from South Garo Hills Greneth Sangma has demanded an urgent deployment of security forces and search operation against ISIS-K in plain belt areas of West Garo Hills.

Greneth made the demand in his complaint to the Meghalaya Home Minister.

“I wish to bring to your attention a disturbing poster circulated on social media, warning Garos to vacate their land before2027, signed by ISIS-K and Aminur Islam, Area Commander of Plain Belt Area. This poses a threat to the people of Garo Hills, Meghalaya, particularly in areas likePhulbari, Rajabala, Tikrikilla, Selsela, Garobhada and Tura. These individuals are outsiders, allegedly from Bangladesh, with dual votes in Assam and Meghalaya. They are attempting to claim land belonging to the Garos, protected under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution,” Greneth said.

Greneth felt that the shocking incident has highlighted the need for the establishment of the Inner Line Permit (ILP), deletion of dual voters, the creation of a separate Electoral Roll for GHADC, NRC (National Register of Citizens) in Meghalaya and strict implementation of laws protecting tribal lands.

Greneth also sought immediate action by way of deployment of security forces in West Garo Hills and setting up  of additional camps, a search operation against ISIS-K and its associates, identification and removal of outsiders with illegal claims to land as well as protection for local residents.
