NSCN(R) cadre surrenders

Guwahati, Jan 29: An active cadre of NSCN (R), identified as Khunpong Wangsa (30 years), son of Late Wangching Wangsa, resident of Lower Kolam village, PO/PS Lazu, Tirap district on Arunachal Pradesh, surrendered on January 28 at Khonsa before the 36th Battalion CRPF, 44th Assam Rifle & Civil Police in the presence of Prabhakar Tripathy DIG (Ops) Dibrugarh, CRPF.
He had joined the outfit on November 25, 2022, according to a Press release.
The surrender was facilitated as part of continuous efforts by the 36 Battalion CRPF under supervision of Commandant Lamkhokam Lhoujem, to promote peace and stability in the region.
The surrendered insurgent has expressed willingness to shun violence and rejoin the mainstream. Necessary legal formalities are being carried out as per laid-down procedures at the SP office, Tirap.
The 36th Battalion of CRPF reiterates its commitment towards maintaining peace, security, and development in the area and encourages misguided youths to abandon the path of violence and return to the mainstream.
