SHILLONG, Jan 29: Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Transport, Sniawbhalang Dhar, on Thursday said that tenders have been floated for the construction of heliports in Shillong and Tura.
He noted that the government land is available and the process to allot the construction work for the heliports is currently under way.
According to Dhar, the concerned ministry at the Centre has asked the state government to first start the services between Shillong and Tura. “Once it is done, we will also think of constructing heliports in other districts,” Dhar said.
The government is likely to set up the two heliports at the New Shillong Township and Tura to facilitate the movement of passengers via choppers.
Currently, air passengers in Shillong use the Air Force helipad at Upper Shillong, while in Tura, land owned by the BSF is being used for the operation of helicopter services.
