SHILLONG, Jan 31: The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) has invited requests for proposals for the development, maintenance, management, and operation of Package-1 of the Greenfield High-Speed Corridor from Mawlyngkhung (near Shillong) in Meghalaya to Panchgram (near Silchar) in Assam.
The four-lane project involves paved shoulders and will be executed on a hybrid annuity model (HAM). Package-1 stretches from Km 0+000 to Km 45+645, with a design length of 45.645 km. The estimated project cost for this package is Rs 4,734.24 crore.
Last year, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the proposal for the development, maintenance, and management of a 166.80-km, four-lane, access-controlled Greenfield corridor along National Highway-6, connecting Mawlyngkhung and Panchgram. The HAM project is estimated to cost Rs 22,864 crore.
Of the total project length, 144.80 km lies in Meghalaya, while 22 km is in Assam.
Once completed, the proposed high-speed corridor is expected to significantly improve traffic movement between Guwahati and Silchar. It will enhance connectivity to Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, and the Barak Valley region of Assam, reducing both travel distance and travel time.
