Kohima: Nagaland Roads and Bridges Minister Kuzholuzo Nienu has expressed serious concern over the alleged threat meted out to the business community of Phek town.
In the wake of the threat, mass based organisations like ACAUT Nagaland, Phek Town Youth Society (PTYS) and Phek Town Chamber of Commerce and Industries (PCCI) protested by downing shutters and observing complete closure.
In a statement, Mr Nienu has questioned the inaction of the district administration and the law enforcing agencies against the factions involved in anti-social practices.
Pointing out that such inaction in the face of such anti-social elements disrupting the prevailing peace cannot be accepted, he has urged the law enforcing agency to bring the culprit to book immediately and award befitting punishment.
Mr Nienu has appreciated the efforts of ACAUT Nagaland for its initiative to promote peace. Peace is what is required for all round development, he stated and encouraged all mass based organisations to condemn such anti-social practitioners aiming to disrupt the prevailing social harmony.
Advocating that the whole Naga populace was in search for peace, the Minister stated that no anti-social practitioners can be allowed to take law into their own hands and hold the society at ransom.
Meanwhile, normal life in Phek Town came to a grinding halt yesterday, when all shops downed shutters in response to the call by PCCI, PTYS and ACAUT Phek Unit, to express resentment of public and business community against the action of NSCN (K) deputy kilonser. The bandh was total and peaceful with no untoward incident.
Large number of youth volunteers of Phek town came out in support of the bandh as the incident came in the wake of continuing threats, extortion, harassment and illegal taxations imposed on business and public by various elements. The NGOs of Phek town also expressed gratitude to public for ensuring the success of the band.
After the bandh, the NGOs resolved that henceforth, any threats or untoward incident by any NPG in the town would compel public to flush them out totally without any compromise whatsoever. Further the NGOs also reaffirmed their unwavering support to ACAUT Nagaland in its endeavour. (UNI)
