SHILLONG, Feb 7: What began as a simple gathering at the auditorium Hall of Garo Union Morning Secondary School, turned into a heart-warming moment for 50 underprivileged students who received school uniform jerseys in a gesture of care and solidarity, on Friday.
The vice president of the Meghalaya Manipuri Welfare Society formally handed over the jerseys to the president of the school’s managing committee.
Though modest in scale, the initiative carried deep meaning for the beneficiaries — many of whom come from families facing financial hardship.
As the jerseys were presented, the atmosphere in the hall reflected quiet gratitude and hope. For the students, the new uniforms symbolised more than just clothing; they represented encouragement, belonging and renewed confidence to continue their education without feeling left out. The members highlighted the importance of community support in shaping young lives, noting that small acts of generosity can make a lasting difference in a child’s academic journey. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by the General Secretary of the school’s managing committee, who expressed appreciation to the Meghalaya Manipuri Welfare Society for extending timely assistance and reaffirmed the school’s commitment to supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
