NONGPOH: Ri Bhoi Police on Monday recovered the partially decompose body of a truck driver hailing from Jammu & Kashmir from a forested area near Shang Bangla, Ri-Bhoi district.

The driver, Jaswant Singh, and the handyman Sanju Kumar Singh were abducted on May 13 last from Rangia, Assam, by unidentified persons while they were on their way from Madhya Pradesh with a truck (RJ 19 GB – 4584) loaded with garlic.

Providing details of the incident, Sanju, the handyman, said around nine people had gheraoed their truck in Rangia on May 13 when a road blockade was effective.

“They first assaulted us and later forced us to consume some kind of drugs after which we fell unconscious. When I woke up after some time, I was surprised to find that I had reached Ri-Bhoi in Meghalaya but the driver was missing,” the handyman said while narrating the incident.

He somehow managed to escape and immediately informed Byrnihat Police about this incident.

“The police finally recovered Jaswant’s body on Monday,” the handyman said, while adding that the body was identified by the brother of the driver after seeing the clothes.

Meanwhile, both Assam and Meghalaya Police are on the lookout for those involved in the abduction and murder of the truck driver.
