Education scam in State

SHILLONG: The Joint Action Committee of All Teachers’ Association in Meghalaya (JACATAM) has expressed concern over the failure of the State Government to take action against Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh and officials involved in the tampering of the score sheets of applicants for the post of assistant teachers in Government Lower Primary Schools in the State.

“The CBI findings had exposed that there has been manipulation in the appointment of assistant teachers under the directive of the minister. Stringent action should be taken against those who are involved including the Minister and senior government officials,” JACATAM chairman ED Nongsiang said here on Tuesday.

The Government has only taken action against the teachers appointed at the behest of the Minister, the JACATAM chairman pointed out.

Earlier on Sunday, BJP’s state president KS Lyngdoh and party general secretary Dipayan Chakraborty had also informed the media that the party has taken strong exception to the Education scam in Meghalaya which has threatened to put at peril the career of thousands of students in the State.

“This would be the first issue which the BJP would take up once the NDA forms the government,” the state BJP leaders had said.
