Law student kills woman classmate inside classroom
CHANDIGARH, Feb 9: A first-year law student in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district on Monday allegedly shot dead his fellow female student in the head inside the classroom before turning the gun on himself and pulling the trigger, as horrified classmates watched.The weapon used in the crime appeared to be illegal, adding that the accused, Prince Raj, 20, — the son of a retired CRPF personnel — was critically injured and undergoing treatment, while Sandeep Kaur, 19, died on the spot.Both Prince and Sandeep were first-year law students and classmates.A family member of Sandeep alleged that Prince had been harassing her for some time and had even followed her home on one occasion. Investigation suggests that Raj had feelings for Sandeep, who was already engaged to another man. (PTI)
Woman dead, daughter hurt in building fire
MUMBAI, Feb 9: A 63-year-old woman died and her daughter was injured after a fire broke out in their flat in a 13-storey building in Mumbai.The blaze erupted on the 13th floor of the building at 9.51 AM. At least five fire engines and other vehicles put out the flames after three hours.The blaze erupted in a flat owned by the family of the builder who had constructed the highrise.He said Bhavna Satra, the sister-in-law of the builder, and her daughter Aneree had gone to check the cause of the fire when smoke started emanating from the flat.Satra, an asthma patient, died of suffocation, he added. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. (PTI)
