SHILLONG: After enjoying interrupted power supply for the past few days, residents of Shillong now are being treated to another round of load shedding since Tuesday by the MeECL.

Official sources informed that the MeECL had not imposed load shedding for the past few days since Myntdu-Leshka Hydel Electrical Power Project (MLHEP) was generating power to its full capacity since there was heavy rainfall in Jaintia Hills.

“The State was having surplus power since all the three units of MLHEP were generating optimum power. But at present only one unit is generating power in the absence of rainfall in Jaintia Hills for the past many days which has force the MeECL to re-impose the load shedding,” the official sources said.

Meanwhile, the sources also clarified that MeECL had purposely not issued any kind of official notification about withdrawal of the load shedding since it was only a temporary arrangement.

“The load shedding would be permanently withdrawn only after the water level at the Umiam reservoir increases,” the sources added.
