SHILLONG, Feb 16: The State Cabinet has approved the establishment of the Police Accountability Commission under Section 73 of the Meghalaya Police Act, 2010.
Retired IAS officer Peter Ingty has been appointed chairman of the commission, while retired IAS officer VR Syiem will serve as a member. The Cabinet also approved an amendment to the Meghalaya Police Act, 2010, and sanctioned the transfer of the re-organisation cell to the Home (Political) department.
It also approved the revised cost estimates for several sporting infrastructure projects ahead of the 39th National Games. Sports Minister Wailadmiki Shylla said that Cabinet approval was mandatory for projects where the revised estimates increased by more than 25%.
The affected projects include the aquatic and tennis courts at Umsawli, the hostel block at Umsawli, and works at Sunny Hills and the PA Togan Nengminja Sangma Athletic Stadium in Tura.
