JOWAI, Feb 17: The Jaintia National Council (JNC), Khliehriat Circle, has petitioned the Public Works Department (PWD) to immediately repair deteriorating village roads in Khliehriat Town.
In a representation led by general secretary Symboh Baiar Sumer, the council expressed concern over roads riddled with potholes and uneven surfaces due to prolonged neglect. The JNC stated that these conditions pose risks to pedestrians, students, and patients, while also causing daily traffic congestion.
The council highlighted that the situation worsens during the rainy season, as waterlogging and muddy surfaces increase the risk of accidents and vehicle damage, disrupting local economic activities.
Citing the PWD Works Manual and the constitutional right to safety under Article 21, the JNC has demanded an immediate inspection of the affected stretches.
