Probe panel submits report to NHRC

SHILLONG: The report of magisterial probe into the controversial killing of ANVC-B political secretary Ajaju R Marak and three others has been submitted to the National Human Rights Commission.

Ajaju was killed along with three other cadres on January 11 after he spilled the beans on January 10 on how the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma had retained power in 2009 when there was demand for change of leadership allegedly with the help of ANVC-B.

Ajaju had also alleged that several political leaders were affected by the activities of ANVC-B militants during the Assembly elections held in 2013.

A fake encounter killing allegation was levelled against the SP of Tura MK Singh soon after the incident at Daren Agal village, near Dobasipara, on January 11 night.

However, the SP had clarified that there was no fake encounter as the militants were killed in exchange of fire.

An official source said that the probe report of additional district magistrate DD Shira into the alleged fake encounter was submitted to NHRC and the political affairs department.

The official, however, refused to divulge the content of the report. Though the magisterial probe began in the last part of January, more time was given to complete the task due to the Lok Sabha polls. The bodies of the four ANVC-B militants were buried in Tura’s Gaudhya Math as neither the ANVC-B top leaders nor the family members
