SHILLONG, Feb 24: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) on Tuesday said the party leaders will huddle up soon after the budget session to discuss who will take up the mantle of late Ricky A.J. Syngkon.
“As of now we are still mourning. We understand the loss but we first need to concentrate on the budget session,” VPP supremo Ardent M. Basaiawmoit said.
Refusing to comment any further on the issue, he said, “As of now we will not be able to say anything as we have not held any discussion.”
On the other hand, East Shillong MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh declined to comment on vacant Shillong Parliamentary seat.
Lyngdoh told reporters that she has not received any offer from the NPP to contest the election. She added that she would first consult the NPP leadership and her family before taking any decision when the nominations are invited.
The MLA had contested the Parliamentary seat in 2024 as an NPP candidate but was relegated to the third position behind VPP’s Syngkon and Congress veteran Vincent H. Pala.
