Panaji, Feb 26: Goa Revolutionary Party MLA Viresh Borkar and 28 others were booked for allegedly stealing files and office items from the Goa Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department during a protest, officials said.
The protest, held on February 20 at Chief Town Planner Vertika Dagur’s Patto office, opposed the controversial Section 39A of the TCP Act, which allows conversion of non-settlement zones into settlements for construction.
Protesters stayed overnight at the office, and Borkar was removed the next morning. Police allege the group took 10 files, fans, and cupboards, though tribal leader Govind Shirodkar called the charges “ridiculous,” citing police presence and CCTV coverage.
Borkar’s hunger strike demanding the repeal of Section 39A entered its sixth day on Thursday. (PTI)
