Shillong, Feb 26: Shillong Lajong FC will field an all-Indian squad for the 2025-26 Indian Football League season, with experienced midfielder Kenstar Kharshong named captain.
The club has decided not to sign any foreign players this year, largely due to financial constraints. A similar step was taken in the 2018-19 season, when Lajong were relegated from the I-League, now rebranded as the Indian Football League (IFL).
While the full squad list has not yet been officially released, the team will feature senior players such as vice-captain Phrangki Buam, Siwel Rymbai, Kitboklang Khyriem, Everbrightson Mylliempdah and Saveme Tariang.
New signings Overkindness L Mawnai and Manbhakupar Iawphniaw have also joined the side.
Head coach Birendra Thapa will continue at the helm. Thapa said the current group is better prepared than the one that struggled in 2018-19.
